Dublin Zoo Facing Criminal Charges
Dublin Zoo is facing criminal charges after a two year old girl suffered severe injuries when she was attacked by a Tapir last year.
The zoo is accused of ignoring a health risk assessment carried out seven years before the 'close encounter' at the Brazilian tapir enclosure.
The report said members of the public should not have access to parts of the tapir area.
The little girl suffered stomach and arm injuries after the incident last August, her mother was also injured.
Dublin District Court heard that the Health and Safety Authority is taking the case against the Zoological Society of Ireland, for failing to implement the risk assessment.
