Rents have reached new record levels according to the latest report from Daft.ie.
In Dublin the average monthly rent stands €1774, an increase of 12% on the same time last year.
The report's author Ronan Lyons says attempts by the government to curb rents don't seem to be working
"There isn't a single part of the country where rents are increasing at less than 4% a year, which is what the rent pressure zones are designed to do. It's not clear to me that the system of Rent Pressure Zones is working and in fact it may be having the opposite effect."
