President To Make Plain Cigarette Packets Law
The look of a box of cigarettes sold in Ireland is about to change - despite tobacco companies' best efforts.
Both the Dail and the Seanad have passed new laws on plain cigarette packaging - the bill is expected to be signed into law by the President.
The Children's Minister says the new laws will strip tobacco companies of their last chance to advertise their products.
Dr. James Reilly said the new packets - featuring graphic images of damage - will also encourage current smokers to quit.
Tobacco companies say they will continue to fight the move, and plan to launch a legal bid.
