The Irish medical team immediately strapped an ice-pack to Arter's leg and he was being sent for a scan after today's session.
O'Neill confirmed that he was not due to start tomorrow night but may still feature off the bench if he is not seriously injured.
Fellow midfielder James McCarthy is making progress and was doing some training away from the squad with the FAI's fitness coach - slow turns, jogging and kicking the ball.
