Michael Conlan Fined Over Olympics Outburst
Michael Conlan has been handed a heavy fine by the AIBA, after his outburst at the Olympics last summer.
He has been handed the maximum fine of 10,000 Swiss francs (€9,300) that could have been imposed, after his expletive-laden interview following his shock controversial defeat to Russian opponent Vladimir Nikitin in Rio.
Conlan has since left the amateur ranks behind- and will make his professional debut on St Patrick’s weekend at Madison Square Garden in New York City.
And, according to the Irish Independent, the AIBA “reluctantly agree” that he is unlikely to pay the fine as a result.
However, the Belfast bantamweight fighter would be forced to pay the fine in future, if he wanted to return to the amateur ranks as a coach.
