Haim Chat To Ryan Seacrest
Este, Danielle, and Alana Haim formed a family band with their parents, Mordechai and Donna, called Rockinhaim and occasionally performed at charity events. After years of covering rock bands like the Eagles and Santana, the sisters began to write their own music without their parents and became widely known in the indie music arena as Haim.
The stopped by On Air with Ryan Secreast to chat about their hit with Calvin Harris, their friendship with Taylor Swift and new music plans.
In 2013, they released their debut studio album Days Are Gone, which spawned their massive singles “Forever” and “The Wire” and earned them a Grammy nominaton for Best New Artist. In addition to their global successes over the past year alone, the sisters were especially floored when they heard their Calvin Harris-produced single “Pray to God” playing on the radio.
“When I turned on my car and it was on, we all freaked out. We called Este, my mom was crying, and my dad was throwing confetti in the air. It was a big moment in the Haim household.”
“We’ve known Calvin for a little while,” Este, 29, reveals. “He put out a record in like 2008 or ’09 like back in the day, and I used to go out to all of his shows and I was a big fan. We just kind of linked up. I think he knows how much of a fan I am.”
Whatever their social approach may be, the girls have enviably become close friends with pop sensation Taylor Swift after they “kind of just met up.” Haim and Ms. Swift have since been spotted holidaying in Maui, singing along to Faith Hill‘s “This Kiss,” and now the sisters will serve as special guests for select dates on the “Blank Space” singer’s upcoming 1989 World Tour.
After taking a two-year break from releasing another full-length album, the sisters are back in the studio with Days Are Gone producer Ariel Rechtshaid for their long-awaited sophomore project. At the top of 2014, they spoke to Rolling Stone and revealed their plans to cite Kanye West as the inspiration behind the forthcoming release.
“I think we’re just such huge Kanye fans,” they admit. “I think he’s very bold with his production. I’ve seen Kanye perform a million times and I think he’s amazing and is always on some future vibes. I think he’s just fun to listen to before we play shows. He’s on our pre-show vibe!”
