The notorious former singing priest Tony Walsh has been sentenced to 7 and a half years in prison for raping a boy with a crucifix.
The 62 year old assaulted the boy in Dublin in the early 1980s.
Last month, Tony Walsh was convicted by a jury of five counts of indecently assaulting the boy, including three of rape.
He used a crucifix for one of the attacks.
The 62 year old had denied every knowing the boy and said he had never assaulted him.
The boy was aged between 10 and 13 at the time.
The Judge said Walsh had violated his position of trust in the community and it’s hard to conceive of a more grave assault.
Walsh formerly of North Circular Road has 17 previous convictions for indecent assault and is already in jail.
This conviction means he’s now not due for release until 2023.
