Ellie Goulding Stops By On Air With Ryan Seacrest
Ellie Goulding has achieved chart domination with her massive single “Love Me Like You Do.” The sensual hit, produced by music executive Max Martin, is an original song written for the Fifty Shades of Grey soundtrack, which also conquered the global box office in its own right.
With songs like “Mirror” and “Bittersweet” powering The Hunger Games: Catching Fire and The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn — Part 2 soundtracks, respectively, she tells On Air with Ryan Seacrest that she had originally sworn off any film contributions to focus on a new studio album. However, her short-lived pledge was quickly swayed upon meeting the Fifty Shades crew and hearing the tender love ballad.
“I wasn’t going to get involved in that soundtrack because I’ve done a lot of soundtracks and we kind of thought we’ve done a bit too much film stuff,” she said, “So we should probably just chill and write that third album, which is what I should be focusing on. And then I met the director [Sam Taylor-Johnson] and everyone involved and I was like, ‘This is a pretty cool thing to be involved in.’ Then I heard the song and I was like, ‘Woah, this is a pretty awesome song.’ I didn’t know that it was going to be this big, genuinely. I thought it would do well.”
In addition to the global success of “Love Me,” which also peaked at the No. 1 spot on Billboard’s Pop Songs chart, Ellie is booking studio sessions for her hotly-anticipated, not-yet-titled third studio album that is expected to drop some time this year. The “Burn” singer says the upcoming release, the follow-up to 2013’s Halcyon Days, will narrate the “happy phase” of her life.
“This album, it’s stuff from the past couple of years — and a lot of stuff has gone down in the past couple of years,” she teases. “So with that in mind, it’s actually turned out to be quite a positive, uplifting kind of vibe so far. I always like to make music that is hopeful. And even in my songs, I never like to leave it on like a, ‘What happened with that situation?’ I always like to give both sides of stuff.”
Ellie also reveals that the forthcoming project may not feature any guest verses from other artists, but fans can expect her favourite producers and writers to contribute to the release. Although the album will capture a new chapter in her life, the “Lights” singer and her team of creatives are will be producing material in her wheelhouse of “dark pop songs.”
When the singer isn’t running her angelic vocals in the recording studio, she’s sprinting through any terrain imaginable. The avid runner — and ambassador of Nike — developed an obsession with running at 18-years-old and has ran five half-marathons so far. Her reason for sprinting on a regular basis, however, is not for the purpose of being skinny, but to be fit and to use the healthy activity as a motive to party hard guilt-free.
