Captain Robbie Keane Speaks To 98FM Sport After Historic Win
Robbie Keane spent just two hours with his wife and newborn child last Monday night before making the long journey to Dublin from LA knowing that he may not start in the biggest game in the Republic of Ireland's Euro 2016 campaign.
It turned out to be one biggest nights in Irish football history as Shane Long struck the goal that saw the Boys in Green claim a famous win against the world champs Germany.
Keane watched from the sidelines as Martin O'Neill opted to start with Darryl Murphy in the lone striker role and when Shay Given went off injured to be replaced by Darren Randolph his chances of featuring were reduced.
Long replaced Murphy and when Stephen Ward went off injured, on came David Meyler and gone with it the skipper's chance of playing but after the game he showed true leadership in assessing the game and praising his team.
Keane lauded the whole squad for the team spirit shown throughout the week and praised the performances on the night of several players as he spoke afterwards to 98FM Sport's Stephen Doyle
