Activists Leave Custom House After Housing Minister Agrees To Meeting
A group occupying the Custom House in Dublin have left the building after the Housing Minister agreed to meet with them.
The activists, who have been holding a sit-in at a vacant house in Summerhill for the past week, stormed the offices of the Department of Housing this afternoon.
They said they took the action to secure a meeting with Eoghan Murphy, to discuss their ideas to fix the housing crisis.
Tomás Lynch from Dublin Central Housing Action says a number of groups involved want to be heard.
"They have agreed to meet us, we are just negotiating over the number of representatives", he said.
"We want each of the seven groups involved in the initial demonstration to be involved in that meeting".
Earlier, Irish Solidarity-People Before Profit TD Richard Boyd Barrett addressed those gathered at the demonstration.
Patrick Nelis from Dublin West Housing Action had said the group was willing to stay there overnight before an agreement was reached.
"There is people inside and outside blocking the doors, and they have locked the gates. But there are ways of people getting in, it's not a very big fence in fairness", he said.
