Richie Towell Seals Move To Brighton
Richie Towell is set to join Brighton and Hove Albion.
The Championship leaders have agreed a 2 and half year deal with the Dundalk star, who picked up the PFAI Player of the Year award after leading the Lilywhites to the league and cup double this year.
Subject to international clearance, the 24-year-old Dubliner will sign a deal until 2018, but he won’t be able to play for them until January 2nd when the transfer window reopens.
Former Republic of Ireland defender Chris Hughton is the Brighton manager.
He is delighted to welcome Towell on board.
"Richie's had a wonderful season in Ireland and scored a lot of goals for the champions Dundalk from midfield, and that really caught our eye.”
"He is something different to the number of very good midfield options we already have here at the club, and I am really looking forward to having him as part of our squad in the New Year.
"He had a lot of good options available for his next move; here in England, in Scotland, in Ireland with Dundalk and in Europe, so we are delighted he has decided to join us.”
Towell won back-to-back Airtricity League titles in his time with Dundalk, as well as claiming a League of Ireland Cup medal in 2014 and scoring the winner in the FAI Cup final this year- his last game for the club.
The midfielder spoke to 98FM’s Jamie Moore on Now That’s What I Call Sport earlier this month:
