Making A Murderer: Dassey To Stay Behind Bars
Brendan Dassey, the man at the centre of the hit Netflix series 'Making a Murderer' has seen a motion for his release declined by a US appeals court.
Dassey was 16 at the time of his conviction, and now at the age of 28, a Chicago court house found he was interviewed properly by police and his confession of murder was not forced.
In 2007, Dassey was accused of aiding his uncle Steven Avery in the murder of Teresa Halbach, and they were both given life sentences.
Halbach's murder was featured in the documentary series ‘Making a Murderer’ launched in December 2015.
Last year, a court in Wisconsin found that Dassey has been tricked into confessing, with the judge pointing out that Dassey has a low IQ, was easily coerced and changed his story multiple times.
He was also without proper legal representation during his police interrogations.
However, the state appealed, asking the full panel of the appeals court to reconsider the case.
Many believe that Dassey and Avery were wrongly convicted but by a vote of 4-3, the judges ruled that the confession was not forced.
Judges have decided the detectives obtained his confession properly, and he should remain behind bars.
