Dublin Motorists Still Speeding Despite New Limits
The city's new speed restrictions have been hailed a success despite most Dubliners driving above the new limit.
A recent survey looked at 40 streets where the lower speed limit of 30 kmph is in force.
It showed that averge speeds had only fallen at 32 locations and that most Dubliners were still driving at an average of over 40kmph.
However, Dublin City Council say they're satisfied the new city centre speed limits are working.
The Times Ireland report that the council intend to press ahead with the next phase of the project in 2018, which'll impose lower limits on arterial routes and suburbs.
The roll out of 'slow zones' came into effect in the city in May. It reduced the speed limit on roads between the two canals and included areas like Sandymount, Crumlin, Drimnagh and Phibsborough.
