Ophelia Clean-Up Expected To Be Expensive And Long
After Ophelia passes over Ireland, attention will turn to the clean-up. Damage of around €700 million is expected to be caused by "stormy and violent" winds.
Fallen trees and debris are strewn across many roads tonight and tomorrow morning. More than 450,000 buildings are expected to be without power by dark tonight. ESB Networks warns some of those will be waiting ten days to get power back.
People with home and comprehensive car insurance are protected against storm damage caused by Ophelia. Destruction caused by falling trees or flying debris and structural damage are all covered.
Conor Faughnan from The AA is warning people about what is called contributory negligence. He explained that "if you do something something that causes or exaggerates the damage, then you might not be covered".
"If you park your car on a pier to take a photo and it ends up full of salt water, you insurance company may be within their right to tell you they're not paying out", he warned.
