One Body Found in Search for Crew of Rescue 116
Efforts are underway to recover a body found in the wreckage of Rescue 116 off the coast of County Mayo.
The discovery was made in the wake of another find, after divers yesterday recovered the Coast Guard Helicopter's black box recorder.
It will be transferred to the UK for specialist examination - it's expected to be a number of days before its data is downloaded and deciphered.
The body, found 40 metres below sea level, has not yet been formally identified. Superintendent Tony Healy said today's efforts will focus on bringing the remains to the surface: "I can confirm the body was found in the cockpit on the seabed. We will be using the navy on board the Samuel Beckett to provide cover for further searches today, as well as an Garda Síochana divers"
Three men were on board the helicopter captained by Dara Fitzpatrick: Paul Ormsby, Mark Duffy and Ciaran Smith.
Captain Fitzpatrick has been laid to rest, while the search for her colleagues has been ongoing for a fortnight since the crash.
