Pro Choice TDs Wear Repeal Jumpers in the Dáil
The Taoiseach's defended the Citizens Convention on abortion, which will meet for the first time in Malahide on the 15th of October.
Enda Kenny's been reacting to pro-choice TDs, six of whom wore Repeal jumpers in the Dáil today. They want a referendum to be called on the issue of repealing the 8th amendment instead of holding a convention.
AAA Dublin West TD Ruth Coppinger told Enda Kenny that Saturday's pro-choice march through the city shows people want the clause removed, rather than being changed.
"When people say 'repeal' they mean 'revoke, to make null and void'. Not replace, not amend."
But Enda Kenny says it's important to get everyone's views:
"It's not a black and white situation. Tee shirts might be black with white writing but this is about people and they've all got different views. And if 20,000 or 30,000 marched on the weekend, obviously the reason we have this Citizen's Assembly is to allow people to have their say."
