Liffey Valley To Get Civic Plaza and Olympic-Standard Ice Rink
A major expansion of Liffey Valley Shopping Centre has been given the go ahead. Planning permission to build more shops has been granted, as well as an Olympic-sized ice rink and arena.
The venue will be able to host international ice skating competitions, ice hockey matches and performances while accommodating 2,500 spectators.
Those behind the project say "plans include a transformation of the Centre’s civic spaces with the addition of a major new public space equivalent to a typical European-scale Urban Plaza."
There had been some opposition to the expansion plans particularly around concerns relating to increased traffic volumes. South Dublin County Council gave developers six months to revise their scheme.
Now, permission has been granted on the basis they remove plans for a massive multi-storey car park.
