Kanye West Talks To Ryan Seacrest And Explains Grammy Controversy
The 57th annual Grammy Awards concluded with what some would call a massive plot twist after music veteran Beck walked away with album of the year for Morning Phase, besting Sam Smith‘s In the Lonely Hour, Ed Sheeran‘s x, Pharrell Williams‘ G I R L, and of course, Beyoncé‘s raved-about self-titled album. #
During Beck’s victory walk to the podium, Kanye West was provoked by the unexpected win and stormed onstage in a fashion that was reminiscent of his 2009 MTV Video Music Awards stunt, during which he infamously crashed Taylor Swift‘s Best Female Video acceptance speech and praised Queen B’s “Single Ladies” visual as “one of the best videos of all time.”
Though Kanye appeared to be joking during the telecast, he spoke to E! post-Grammys and took a jab at the some 13,000 members of the Recording Academy for overlooking Bey’s project, ranting, “I don’t know what he said, all I know is if the Grammys want real artists to keep coming back, they need to stop playing with us.”
With the “Kanyegate” controversy continuing to pick up steam as other public figures weigh-in on the stunt, the Yeezus rapper dialled in to On Air with Ryan Seacrest to clarify his motive and discuss how his “FourFiveSeconds” collaboration with Paul McCartney and Rihanna came about.
