There Are Hidden References To Ballymun In Spongebob Squarepants
There are hidden references to Ballymun dotted all over Spongebob Squarepants.
No, really.
Eagle-eyed Twitter user, @ohtypicalex made the discovery yesterday afternoon.
And there's a perfectly good explanation. It turns out one of the Spongebob Squarepants artists is from the northside.
Derek l'Estrange grew up in Sandyhill Gardens in Ballymun and moved to California to become one of the animators for the Nickelodeon show.
It's not the only reference to the city dotted throughout the kids cartoon.
"What he likes to do is hide references to Ballymun all over the programme and some references to Dublin as well", Fine Gael TD for Dublin North West, Noel Rock told 98FM News.
"There are some buildings that are supposed to look like the tower blocks in Ballymun ... there's also one, I believe that's meant to be modeled on the GPO. In fact, I think the GPO word appears in the programme somewhere as well".
Do you notice any resemblance?
