M&S Charging Irish Customers Up To 40% More
Marks and Spencer is blaming the cost of doing business in Ireland for an up to 40 percent price difference for Irish shoppers.
The retailer’s Christmas food catalogue is showing prices that are significantly higher than in the UK.
M&S recently launched its Christmas food catalogue, but it seems shoppers in Ireland are paying more for the same products.
A free range turkey will cost around 30% more, mini mince pies are a third more, while dauphinoise potatoes are 40%.
Marks and Spencer blame the price difference on the cost of doing business in Ireland such as higher employment, rental and operational costs.
Kieran Rumley of Love Irish Food says many retailers aren't passing on savings that should result from a weaker pound "certainly since Brexit there is a 15-20% differential in currency."
"To what extent are we seeing that being passed on? Certainly there is a lag", he said.
