Leo Cullen Adopts Wait-And-See Approach With Johnny Sexton
"We'll see, wait and see", was all that Leinster head coach Leo Cullen would say regarding Johnny Sexton's chances of participating in the European Champions Cup this month.
The Blues outhalf injured his hamstring on international duty during Ireland's clash with New Zealand and sat out the win against Australia.
His Irish boss Joe Schmidt suggested at the end of the Autumn Series that Sexton could take a break from playing in order to be "more robust".
However on Monday, Leinster backs coach Girvan Dempsey revealed that the province remained hopeful that he could still feature in the back-to-back European games against Northampton Saints.
The first of those games takes place on Saturday week and Cullen refused to rule the player out or in.
"He spent a bit of time out in Santry this week and we'll see how he gets on out there, get a report early next week and we can make assessments based [on] that".
Cullen was quite vague when asked if he had spoken to Schmidt about the possibility of a break for one of his star performers.
"You're talking about guys all the time. We'll just see how he is, how he presents, how he comes through. We're just working on a bit of strength gains at this moment in time and we can make some assessments then after that."Leinster's outhalf for tomorrow night's clash with Newport Gwent Dragons at the RDS tomorrow night is Joey Carbery who pairs up with fellow new international Luke McGrath in the half-back line.
