Tomorrow's 48-Hour Bus Strike Is Off
The Dublin Bus strike due to take place tomorrow and Wednesday has been cancelled.
Exploratory talks had begun at the Workplace Relations Commission earlier today with the hope of making headway in the row over pay.
Now SIPTU and the National Bus and Rail Union say tomorrow's stoppage will not go ahead. The fleet was due to be taken off the road at 9pm tonight.
However drivers are still scheduled to walk off the job over the following dates:
- 24 hour stoppages on October 1st, 5th, 7th, 10th, 12th and 14th.
- Another 48 hour stoppage will be held over the 18th and 19th of October.
- And there'll be further 24 hour stoppages on 24th, 26th, and 29th of October.
Dermot O'Leary of the NBRU says:
"In agreeing to suspend our member's industrial action we are placing our trust in the WRC and its assessment... that significant progress can be achieved over the next number of days in order to find a resolution to this dispute. The onus is now very much on Dublin Bus to come to the negotiating table and step up to the plate"
Dublin Bus has also issued a statment. Spokesperson Cliona Ní Fhatharta says:
"Dublin Bus management... will continue to engage with all parties at the WRC over the coming days in an effort to find a resolution to this current dispute. All Dublin Bus services will now operate as normal tonight and Tuesday 27 and Wednesday 28 September."
