Martin O'Neill Has Several Injury Concerns Ahead Of World Cup Qualifier
UPDATED: 20:29
Republic of Ireland manager Martin O’Neill has been left sweating over the fitness of several key players ahead of the start of the 2018 World Cup qualifying campaign.
Before that, Robbie Keane is expected to start his final game in green as Oman visit Lansdowne Road for a friendly on Wednesday.
Keane sat out today's training session with the man that will fill his record goalscoring boots, Shane Long - both are nursing minor knocks.
Following the ceremonial exit of Ireland’s most influential player the focus will be firmly on the Group D qualifier away to Serbia next Monday.
James McCarthy has a groin strain and is a doubt for the trip to Belgrade but the FAI revealed in this evening's official update that the Everton midfielder is being monitored.
His clubmate Seamus Coleman has missed the start of the Premier League season due to an ankle injury but he did some light training with the Irish physio today.
As did Jeff Hendrick who has been out of action since he picked up a hamstring injury playing for Derby County against Barnsley over two weeks ago.
The FAI say both responded well to today's workout.
John O'Shea remained with Sunderland for recuperation on a hip injury but is due to link up with the squad on Tuesday, along with Daryl Murphy, Paul McShane and Keiren Westwood.
Meanwhile, Hendrick may have to go back to the UK tomorrow to complete his proposed move to Premier League side Hull City.
It's been reported that Derby have accepted a bid of around €12 million for the Dubliner who is due to have a medical tomorrow before the deal is wrapped up.
