Garda On High Alert Ahead Of Gangland Funerals
Gardai are on high alert as preparations are underway for two gangland funerals in the city next week.
David Byrne and Eddie Hutch are expected to be buried on Monday.
A massive security operation is expected to start in the city this evening ahead of the funerals next week.
Gardai will be increasing their presence in Crumlin and the south inner city ahead of David Byrne’s removal and funeral on Monday.
Eddie Hutch’s funeral is also believed to be taking place in the North Inner City on the same day.
Meanwhile, Dublin’s Lord Mayor Criona Ni Dhalaigh says she’s called for a meeting with Gardai to discuss the latest killings in the city:
"One message is there is enough resources, the next message is there isn't enough resources. So I'd like to actually sit down and speak with the Assistant Commissioner to listen to what his views are and to allay the fears that I have and fears that some of the citizens of Dublin have raised with me".
She added while Gardai helped out in her own area, she said it didn’t last long:
"It always reduces crime. It always reduces the open, blatent drug dealing that goes on. But unfortunately, that kind of presence, that Garda presence can't last because they actually take those resources from somewhere else".
Investigations into both shootings are continuing.
