The Boys In Green Beat The World Champions Germany!
Goalkeeper Darren Randolph set up Shane Long in the 70th minute to score an historical goal that saw the Republic of Ireland clinch their first win against higher ranked opposition since 2001.
The win combined with Scotland's draw against Poland at Hampden Park pushes the Boys in Green into third place and sets up an automatic qualifying winner takes all match between Ireland and Poland in Warsaw on Sunday.
As expected, it was all Germany in the first-half possession-wise but as the game wore on, you got the feeling it wouldn't be there night as they failed to find a shot on target.
Every single man in green rolled his sleeves up and battled hard as a compact defensive unit and even managed a few advances into the German end themselves.
Jonathan Walters, who worked his socks off all night, hit the only shot on target in the first period after he was set up by some clever play by Wes Hoolahan.
It looked like a big blow when Shay Given went off with a twisted knee just before the break to be replaced by a goalkeeper Darren Randolph making his first ever competitive appearance but little did he know the impact he would have.
At the start of the second-half you sensed that the home team were growing in confidence and as the match wore on Germany seemed to be losing their mojo.
Then Randolph hit a long clearance to fellow sub, Long, whose first touch was magnificent and his finish from 12 yards fired past Manuel Neuer was superb.
The stadium erupted as the net rattled and the noise and passion emanating from the Green Army seemed to inspire the 11 Irish men on the pitch and at the same time help wear down their opponents.
Strangely enough, they never looked like losing after that as they showed the world champions who's boss in Dublin and held out for one of the greatest wins in Irish football history.
