Watch: Ugly scenes as Everton fan cradling a child hits Lyon goalkeeper
Everton are set to face disciplinary following a brawl during their 2-1 Europa League defeat to Lyon at Goodison Park on Thursday night.
Tensions boiled over after Toffees skipper Ashley Williams barged the goalkeeper Anthony Lopes to the ground.
Tempers flared as the incident spilled toward the crowd.
Some of the Toffees fans got involved as well. One man, cradling a young boy was captured on camera striking a Lyon player.
Ronald Koeman though has blamed the referee on starting what could've been a riot:
"I don't know what exactly happened. There were a lot of players involved," Koeman said after the game
"It starts by Ashley Williams, the goalkeeper and another defender of Lyon. The irritation grew for my players in the game and in my opinion that was down to the referee.
"He was Dutch, but he didn’t do anything against all of the Lyon players. Fekir in the first half dived 10 times. We had five minutes extra time.
"Six substitutes, three minutes. I don’t know how long for the fight. Maybe two minutes? It’s five.
"I understand my players if something happens, it comes out of frustration.
"Of course you need to handle, and I don't know exactly what happened, but I can understand it."
