Conor McGregor's Coach Offers Diarmuid Connolly Guidance
"I'd be honoured to help Diarmuid to keep his cool on the pitch."
John Kavanagh, the man who coached Conor McGregor to two-weight UFC titles has offered his services to Diarmuid Connolly.
Kavanagh admits that he would be honoured to help the Dublin star forward to keep his mind on the game and that the incident that has resulted in Connolly being banned is a "worrying trait."
The Vincent's club man has been handed a 12-week ban for an altercation with linesman Ciarán Branagan during the boys in blue victory over Carlow in the Leinster quarter-final.
Coach Kavanagh said, "for players that would get caught up in the moment like that and shove an official, knowing very well what it leads to, it's an automatic ban when you do that right, in the GAA?"
The incident and subsequent ban has resulted in a media storm around Connolly, GAA pundits and his manager Jim Gavin, who has declined interviews with RTÉ over the reaction to the incident.
Kavanagh continued, "so he knew what the consequences were and yet he couldn't control himself, so I would definitely as a coach see that as a worrying trait."
"The door is always open to somebody to come in and learn, so if he would like to come in and give it a go, I would be very honoured to give him a lesson."
"It's a great tool for learning to be comfortable in uncomfortable situations."
