Dublin Hurling Back Under The Microscope After Galway Defeat
A post mortem is taking place on Dublin's Leinster hurling Championship campaign this morning.
The Boys in Blue will need to go through the qualifiers again this year, after a heavy 14 point loss to Galway yesterday in the Leinster quarter-final in Tullamore.
Ger Cunningham spoke to the waiting press afterwards, including 98FM’s Derek Ryan.
And was first asked about Cian O'Callaghan's sending off early in the second period, which he felt was harsh:
Cunningham has been heavily criticised in recent months for jettisoning some of the more experienced members of the Dublin panel, in favour of a very young side.
The likes of Johnny McCaffrey and Peter Kelly were left out of the panel for 2017, while Mark and Paul Schutte and Paul Ryan are among those to opt out of the panel for the year.
Instead, Cunningham has brought through younger players, who have achieved success in recent years with Dublin’s underage teams, with four Dubs- Ben Quinn, Sean Moran, Eoghan Conroy and Donal Burke- making their Championship debuts yesterday from the start.
