Leinster Suffer Champions Cup Double Blow
Bad news for Leinster, ahead of next weekend’s Champions Cup clash with Wasps at the Aviva Stadium.
Both Rob Kearney and Jamie Heaslip have been ruled out of the game, after having surgery on their respective injuries.
They had already been ruled out of this weekend's PRO12 game with the Cardiff Blues.
Kearney is out for up to six weeks, after having surgery on the knee injury that kept him out of the final Six Nations game against England last weekend.
Leo Cullen confirmed the news earlier "Rob had an issue with his knee. It happened earlier in the week. He had a procedure during the week after seeing a specialist on Tuesday. That's probably 4-6 weeks for hsi knee. We'll see how he comes through that".
Heaslip has also been ruled out of the game with Wasps, after undergoing a “procedure” on a disc injury in his back today "It's hard to be definitive on timelines, Jamie just had a procedure done on his back this morning - a herniated disk issue. We're estimating he's out for the next number of weeks. When we get a report, we'll find out exactly how long that will be."
Heaslip was a late withdrawal from the Aviva clash with England last week, after pulling up in the warmup.
Cullen admits it’s a bad time for Kearney and Heaslip to pick up the injuries. But he’s confident they can cope "That's the nature of the business that we're in. It's another chance for other guys to come in. It's never an ideal time. We'll see how they are and how they come through. We'll try and get them back as quickly as possible".
