Dublin Ladies Football Team To Make History At Croke Park On Saturday
The Dublin Ladies football team, along with their Mayo counterparts, will make history at Croke Park this Saturday night.
It has been confirmed today that last year's All-Ireland semi-final pairing will meet again in the first ever ladies league tie to be played at GAA HQ.
The top-flight LIDL National Football League round six match will be played at 5pm, ahead of the Allianz League Division One clash between Dublin and Roscommon which throws in at 7pm.
Mick Bohan's Girls in Blue will be looking to bounce back from last weekend's defeat away to Armagh which leaves them third in the table on 9 points behind Cork and Galway on 12 points.
Mayo are second from bottom on 3 points so desperately need the win with the threat of relegation now a serious issue for them.
It is something that the Dublin players have long called for, to have some of their fixtures played before the men's games in order to generate more publicity for the team and to get more supporters to their games.
The Dublin LGFA confirmed the news on social media this afternoon and thanked all those involved in making the fixture happen.
"Dublin LGFA would like to acknowledge the cooperation and assistance of the GAA, LGFA and Mayo LGFA in facilitating this double bill."
Former Dublin boss Greg McGonigle also tweeted his delight at seeing his old team getting to play a league game on Jones' Road.
"Fair play to all involved in making it happen.. #SeriousSupport another positive step forward..."
