Robert Mugabe Sacked As Leader Of Zimbabwe Ruling Party
Robert Mugabe has been sacked as leader of Zimbabwe's ruling party.
The Zanu-PF has appointed former vice president Emmerson Mnangagwa to replace him.
Mr Mugabe's wife Grace has also been dismissed from her political role.
It follows threats from the leader of Zimbabwe's war veterans, in which he said officials would unleash the mob on the 93-year-old if he did not resign as president.
The threat was made by war veterans' leader Chris Mutsvangwa, who said if Mr Mugabe refuses to step aside that: "We will bring back the crowds and they will do their business."
While youth league leader Yeukai Simbanegavi said Mr Mugabe should take a rest as an "elder statesmen", while his wife should be expelled from the party "forever".
On Saturday, Mr Mugabe's nephew insisted his uncle and Grace Mugabe were "ready to die for what is correct" and said the embattled President had no intention of stepping down.
The army seized power in the African country last week and placed Mugabe under house arrest.
