Dún Laoghaire To Trial BleeperBike Scheme
A scheme similar to Dublin Bikes is being rolled out in South Dublin. BleeperBike will be trialed in areas including Dún Laoghaire, Dalkey and Shankill over the next six months.
The bike-sharing system is stationless, meaning subscribers can park at any existing cycle parking stand.
They will work by using an app, which will allow you to scan a bike's QR code once you register and find the nearest BleeperBike.
To end the journey, simply park at a designated parking rack, lock and press end journey - although the company warns users to "make sure you park legally".
It's understood the scheme is being welcomed in Dún Laoghaire Rathdown as the area is not already serviced by Dublin Bikes.Earlier this year, Dublin City Council said the launch of Bleeperbike in the city centre was "premature, and the idea was "in direct conflict with the approach agreed" at its Transport meeting in May.
It was decided that Bye-Laws would be drawn up to proactively engage "with all potential stationless bike share operators with a view to giving an equal opportunity to each" of them.
