The North Inner City Is Getting 13 Extra CCTV Cameras
Drug seizures and the issuing of behavioural warnings have rocketed in the north inner city. Representatives for gardai also say they're ready to roll out CCTV cameras in a bid to tackle gangland crime in the area.
Drug busts worth almost 880-thousand euro have been made this year so far in the north east inner city alone. Reps for Store Street, Mountjoy and The Bridewell Garda stations say that's an increase of 160% on the whole of 2016.
They've told a city council Joint Policing Committee its because they're aggressively targeting mid level drug dealers.
Chief Superintendent Sean Ward is also overseeing the community policing repsonse to the Hutch Kinahan feud.
He says they're ready to roll out 13 CCTV cameras in the area to catch drug gangs in the following areas:
- Junction of Summerhill and Gardiner Street
- Junction of Glouster Diamond and Sean Mc Dermott Street
- Rutland Street
- Sean Mc Dermott Street and Killarney Street
- Five Lamps
- Near the Brendan Behan pub
- Top of Buckingham Street and Summerhill
- Amiens Street
- Railway Street
- Seville Place
- Sherriff Street
- Commons Street
Meanwhile the Chief Super says the number of behavioural warnings issued in the area has spiked by 300 percent.
Gardai say its had an impact on the Blessington Basis after extra resources were deployed to combat the problem there.
