Number Of Gardaí Injured On Duty Continues To Rise
Nearly 300 gardaí have been injured on duty so far this year.
New figures shared by the Minister for Justice and Equality showed there's been an increase in the numbers every year since 2012.
Between 2012 and July of this year, 3,145 Gardaí have been injured whilst on duty.
If you go back further, 5,417 have been injured since 2007 and five have lost their lives.
They included Garda Adrian Donohoe, who was shot dead in 2013, and Garda Tony Golden, who was killed in 2015.
The figures were released in a parliamentary question to Deputy Bernard Durkan TD, who had requested them from the Minister for Justice and Equality, Charlie Flanagan.
According to the Journal.ie, the justice minister’s department was unable to give specific details on the nature of the injuries to the Gardaí.
