Dublin Is Getting 48 New Fire Fighters
Dublin Fire Brigade has recruited 48 new fire-fighters and put on a performance to celebrate. The Fire Brigade Training Centre in Marino hosted the show known as the Recruit Passing-Out Parade earlier today.
All recruits and other Dublin fire-fighters took part in the hour and a half parade showing the skills needed to tackle various fires.
They performed in full fire-fighting uniform with real fire engines, hoses and ladders. The new recruits have had seventeen weeks of intense training and have completed over 29,000 hours of instruction with fifty Dublin Fire Brigade specialist instructors.
The graduates will now go work alongside their professional fire-fighter colleagues in Dublin Fire Brigade.
During the parade the fire-fighters set light to chip pans, cars and up the top of a high buildings to demonstrate the different strategies that take place.
Chief Fire Officer Patrick Fleming expressed his excitement for the new recruits and his passion for Dublin Fire Brigade:
“They would have received training in fire-fighting obviously, hazardous materials, road traffic accidents, SWIFT water rescue and all the disciplines that you would expect a fire-fighter to respond to in an incident”.
“It’s a rigorous training course but in many ways their real training now begins when their assigned to stations, they’ve got the skills and now they will get the experience”.
“Each one of these recruits even though they may not know that much about fire-fighting when they come in to us, they bring other life skills with them ... and it’s wonderful to get new people into the brigade”.
