Ibrahim Halawa Trial Postponed For 20th Time
The trail of Ibrahim Halawa has been postponed for the 20th time.
The Firhouse man will appear again in court on the 5th of April.
The 21 year old has been in an Egyptian prison cell since August 2013 after being arrested during protests in Cairo.
The trial postponement comes amid growing fears for his health.
He is reported to be in a wheelchair and needing injections to keep him alive.
Yesterday the government approved that an independent doctor visit him in jail and carry out an assessment.
Taoiseach Enda Kenny says that he is disturbed by the reports of his failing health and wants an update on his condition.
His sister Fatima told 98FM News they're unhappy about the latest postponement; 'Obviously it’s upsetting but it’s been postponed for two weeks this time and that’s the shortest time we have witnessed. For our family though we just want him home.’’
She added that she welcomes the Government’s decision to send a medical officer to check on his health.
‘’His health is completely deteriorating,’’ Fatima said.
‘’He’s on a hunger strike and he can’t walk so he’s in a wheelchair. His blood levels have decreased dramatically and he’s not well at all.
At the end of the day we want him home to be treated at home. He’s suffering a lot.’’
