Talking Lampost To Tell Dog Owners To Pick Up After Pooch
Talking lamp posts are set to be installed in Dublin city to warn dog owners to clean up after their pets.
It's part of a new litter management plan from Dublin city council.
Dog fouling was the single biggest issue raised during the public consultation on a new litter management plan making up a third of all submissions.
Now the council is proposing to use pre-recording messages reminding dog walkers to obey the law.
A similar system is already in place in Balbriggan.
The system costs 960 euro for three months per location.
The council is also planning a 12 week ad campaign in cinemas to highlight dog fouling.
Dog owners caught breaking the law face a fine of 150 euro however only 30 fines have been issued in Dublin so far this year.
