Nail Salon Asked To Recreate Paintings From The National Gallery
Dublin based salon Tropical Popical will be painting art from the National Gallery onto customers fingernails.
The Gallery has reopened after a six-year refurbishment and are giving the public a chance to have some of their new paintings on their own hands.
The exhibition that the nail technicians will be focusing on is of Johannes Vermeer (1632-1675), the Dutch artist who painted 'Girl with a Pearl Earring'.
The store became famous for their unique nails when when Saoirse Ronan talked about them on the Ellen DeGeneres TV show.
Employee Michelle Horan, said it will be exciting for people to see a small canvas of the artwork on their hands but they need a bit of practice before getting started.
"It will be a challenge but we're going to go in and do a walk through so they get to see what it's like and then they will just take aspects out of it and then just put it onto the nail so it won't be the whole painting on the nails".
"They are all kind of darker colours so it probably won't be anything we're used to, we will just have to tone everything down just to get used to it because we're used to really bright colours".
The salon will be doing the Vermeer nails in the salon for the month of August and will be doing them in the gallery for one day in September.
"We've already started to get bookings from people", she added.
