The Northern Lights Could Be Visible Above Ireland Tonight
The people of Ireland may get to witness a rare sight tonight. According to Astronomy Ireland, the Northern Lights could be visible in parts of the country later this evening after "the largest solar flare for a decade".
On Facebook, Astronomy Ireland posted:
"Big aurora expected Friday night arrived early and was blazing over all of Ireland from midnight Thursday night! It should continue until we get to see it again from sunset Friday on.
This could be the big one that we have been waiting for for over a decade.
Watch on Saturday and Sunday nights also as the sun is popping with flares every day recently."
The organisation added that you should be able to see the Northern Lights "from a dark location, preferably northwest of any urban lights."
"Let your eyes adjust and don't forget camera captures more light than your eyes on a longer exposure so will look even better", Astronomy Ireland added.
However, the view of the aurora could be hindered by the weather. Met Eireann says there will be showers that will be heaviest and most prevalent in the west and north of the country. The east and southeast will get the best of the drier clear interludes.
In Dublin, there will be "a mix of cloud and clear spells tonight with further scattered showers".
