Old Central Bank To Be Protected Building
The old Central Bank on Dame St is to added to list of protected structures.
It was designed by architect Sam Stephenson in the 1970s.
The new owners are set to outline their plans for the building soon and will have to take its new status into account when deciding what to do with the structure.
It was sold in January for around €67 million when the Central Bank moved to it's new Docklands premises on North Wall Quay.
A viewing area over the city is among the ideas proposed for its redevelopment along with a viewing tower, a restaurant and a cafe.
It's understood that the surrounding fending could be removed making the area between Dame Street and Temple bar more pedestrian friendly.
South East Area Rep Dermot Lacey said: "The main challenge for Councillors will be to ensure that any proposal to open up the top is protected in law and that we actually get it".
"I've often seen proposals to allow for access and then the access isn't provided for one reason or another", he explained.
