Steve Bannon To Leave White House
Donald Trump's chief strategist Steve Bannon is leaving his role, the White House has confirmed.
Mr Bannon - former chair of the far-right Breitbart News site - has proven one of the most controversial figures of the Trump administration.
A statement released by the White House today said that Chief of Staff John Kelly and Mr Bannon "have mutually agreed today would be Steve's last day".
"We are grateful for his service & wish him the best," the statement adds.
Recent weeks had seen increasing calls for Mr Bannon - who had previously linked Breitbart with the so-called 'alt right' - to be fired, as well as reported tensions within the White House itself.
Earlier this week, he gave an interview to American Prospect magazine in which he contradicted several of Trump's positions on issues such as North Korea and white nationalism.
