Stella Cinema to Re-open in Rathmines
New life is being breathed into a Rathmines institution.
The much-loved Stella cinema was built in 1923 but shut over a decade ago.
It once had the capacity to hold almost 1,300 people but it was converted to a two screen theatre in the 80s.
In 2004, the cinama closed its doors for good. Now, according to The Herald, it's set to re-open by the summer.
In 2015 it was put up for auction with a guide price of €1.75 million.
It's since been taken over by Paddy McKillen Jnr's Press Up Entertainment.
The group's other iconic businesses include The Workman's Club, The Clarence, The Dean, Tower Records and Captain America's on Grafton Street.
It's understood the revamped Stella will show mainly blockbuster movies and some art house films.
