One Irish Person Injured In London Attack
One Irish person was among the injured in yesterday's terror attack in London.
The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Charlie Flanagan, confirmed the news this afternoon. The Department has offered and is ready to provide consular assistance. The person is not said to have life-threatening injuries.
This morning British Prime Minister Teresa May gave more details of the injuries. They included 12 Britons, three French children, two Romanians, four South Koreans, two Greeks, and one person each from Ireland. Germany, Poland, China, Italy and the United States.
Three police officers were also hurt, two of them are in a serious condition.
Theresa May said the attacker "acted alone" and there was no reason to believe there could be imminent further attacks. He was British born and was investigated by MI5 "some years ago". The prime minister said the UK's threat level is set at severe.
London's worst act of violence in more than a decade killed a total of 4 people and injured 29 in Westminster. Seven people are critically injured in hospital. The attacker and a police officer are among the dead.
The nearby London Eye was on lockdown leaving people stuck inside its pods.
Police also say that 6 addresses have been searched in London, Birmingham and elsewhere around the country and 8 people arrested connection with the attack.
Eye witnesses say a driver ploughed into pedestrians on Westminster Bridge just before 3 o’clock yesterday.
The driver then crashed his vehicle outside the Houses of Parliament, ran at a police officer with a knife, stabbed the officer and was then shot himself.
Theresa May says its business as normal in London today, and described the attack as "sick and depraved".
