Policing Plan Needed For Drug Injection Centre
The outgoing head of Merchants Quay Ireland is calling for a dedicated policing service for the first supervised injection centre.
The pilot project which will run by the support group, will take drug use off the streets and be able to offer medical aid in the case of an overdose.
Tony Geoghegan, who's resigning as CEO next month, has told the Irish Examiner clear guidelines will be needed for frontline Gardai dealing with users.
He's also calling for people who go through rehab to be prioritised for housing, in a bid to prevent relapse.
Tony says single people including those with complex needs are put behind families which ultimately consigns them to the streets.
