Plans To Reopen Clontarf Seawater Baths Welcomed
Business group, Dublin Chamber, says a seawater swimming pool set to open in Clontarf will be a great amenity for the whole city.
The baths have existed since the 1890s but have laid derelict for years and are finally set to re-open in September after a 2 million euro investment.
The open air pool will be at sea temperature but there'll be water heaters to facilitate swimmers through the winter months.
Seawater from Dublin Bay will be used and there'll be a filtration system to keep it clean.
There'll also be a pavillion cafe bar and restaurant after the owner was granted a full drinks license.
Dublin Chamber's Graeme McQueen says it'll be a fantastic facility particularly because of its location.
"It's right on the DART line so it means the whole city will be able to access it. This is the kind of thing that people have been telling (the chamber) they want for Dublin; more public amenities. They work very well in other cities like Copenhagen."
