"Our Ladies Association Has Let Us Down" - Dubs Manager Greg McGonigle
A very upset Greg McGonigle blasted the Ladies Gaelic Football Association after he watched his team edged out by Cork in the All-Ireland final thanks partly to an unawarded point for his team.
The Dublin manager directed his anger at the association for their decision not to use Hawkeye for the biggest game in the ladies football calendar.
Dublin forward Carla Rowe scored a point in the 22nd minute that was incorrectly signaled as wide by the umpire and that would have led to a drawn game.
McGonigle admitted afterwards that he assumed Hawkeye would be in operation and that he is under the impression it is a cost issue
Before last year's decider LGFA President Marie Hickey claimed there was a cost issue and a problem with the size of the ball.
“We did discuss it. But we decided not to go with it this year, we’re going to look at it again for next year.
“At the time, when we looked at it, we realised that there had to be a recalibration for the size of our ball and that would actually have taken longer than the time-frame that we had.
“There’s a cost factor as well, obviously, so we’ll look at it again next year.”
He hit out at the LGFA for not providing the technology that is available to them at Croke ParkThe Dublin ladies county board will be meeting tonight to decide if they will appeal the result due to the unawarded point.
The LGFA have yet to give an official statement but it would appear that there is no avenue for the county board to make an appeal.
