Man Caught Stealing After Leaving Fingerprints on Cup of Tea
A dad of three has pleaded guilty to robbing over 8 thousand euro from an Eddie Rockets. The court heard in August 2013 the manager of the restaurant on South Anne Street was bringing the weekend’s takings worth around 8 thousand euro to the bank.
As he left the restaurant – the accused was sitting outside drinking a cup of tea and grabbed the bag. The manager ended up on the ground and was beaten and punched. Gardai caught the accused after he left his fingerprints on his cup of tea.
The court heard 44 year old Huge McWeeney of Main Street, Belmayne on the Malahide Road has 33 previous convictions. This includes one for armed robbery which he committed with the actor who played Noely in Love /Hate.
McWeeney’s barrister said his client began inhaling solvents at the age of 8 and by his 20s he was taken heroin and crack cocaine. The court heard he committed the offence to try and clear his drugs debts but is now drug free.
Addressing the Judge directly - Mr McWeeney pleaded for leniency and he said he was tired of this way of life and wanted to change and be a better father.
He said he hadn’t been there for two of his kids but wanted to be a better dad to his newborn son. He was jailed for 5 years with 18 months suspended.
He is already serving four years for the armed robbery offence so effectively six months has been added to his sentence.
