Man Admits Raping Girlfriend As She Slept
A court has heard that a man repeatedly raped and sexually assaulted his girlfriend while she slept beside him in their city centre flat.
His victim says she has nightmares about what happened and has been diagnosed with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.
The couple first met at a pub on Dame Street in May 2011 and moved into a city centre flat together a few months later.
The court heard they’d a normal sex life but that she wasn’t happy with him watching porn and asked him to stop, something he reacted angrily to.
Around Easter 2012, she awoke one night and realised he’d had sex with her. She was sleeping heavily at the time because of medication she was on.
A few weeks later, she woke up after feeling like she’d been penetrated by something. She said he was masturbating and watching porn.
She left him shortly afterwards and sent an Email the following month asking for an explanation. He sent a lengthy reply, in which he admitted raping her in her sleep at least 10 times and sexually assaulting her several times a week while they lived together. He said he’d no other outlet because of the ban on porn and used her body for his own short term sexual gratification.
The woman took to the stand today and told her ex-boyfriend that she now lives in fear and suffers from anxiety she even tried to take a fatal overdose.
The man, who can’t be identified to protect her identity, was on bail up until now but was taken into custody this evening and will be sentenced next week.
