The Luas Won't Be Running This Thursday Or Friday
For the first time in Luas' 12 year history, the tram's bells will fall silent this Thursday and Friday.
It's been confirmed that drivers will see through their threat of a strike, in a long-running row over pay and conditions. Th company that runs the trams is advising passengers to make alternative travel plans.
Drivers are also planning another two days of strike action on the 18th and 19th of February - next Thursday and Friday.
Drivers say they want to be paid more, and believe the company can afford to offer salary increases. However, the company says it is loss-making and claims the pay rises being requested amount to a more than 50% increase is some cases.
Trade unions says Luas drivers are paid "significantly less" than DART and other Irish Rail drivers.
SIPTU's John Murphy said "Workers are conscious of the inconvenience this stoppage will have on their customers but believe they have no option but to conduct this industrial action".
Transdev said "Normal Service will resume at 6.30 am on Saturday 13th 2016. Customers who intend using the Luas service on these days should make alternative travel arrangements."
Luas 7 Day, 30 Day, Monthly and Annual Luas ticket holders can apply for a refund for the affected dates.
Transdev is also reminding customers that "although there is no tram service it is against the law to trespass on Luas tracks and property. The overhead lines will be live and maintenance will be working on parts of the system."
