Katie Taylor Won't Fight On Andy Lee Undercard
World and Olympic champ Katie Taylor has been denied the chance to fight on the undercard of the biggest night in Irish boxing in a couple of decades.
Taylor was due to attend a press conference tomorrow, with the WBO Middleweight world champion Andy Lee, to announce her inclusion on the undercard of Lee's title defence against Billy Joe Saunders.
The press conference, due to be held in Dublin, was rescheduled from last week but was then cancelled altogether this afternoon.
Lee's trainer Adam Booth expressed disappointment that Taylor will not be on the bill in Limerick.
“We believe we did everything we could to make this event happen but unfortunately on this occasion, the outcome was not to be."
Devlin Sports, on behalf of the Bray boxer, wished Lee all the best on his big night.
"It is with great regret that Katie Taylor will not be taking part on the Andy Lee undercard at Thomond Park on September 19th.
"We would like to wish Andy all the best."
The clash with Saunders will be the first time the Limerick man puts his title on the line after his April fight against Peter Quillin in New York was deemed a non-title bout due to his opponent not making the weight.
